Made by one pair of hands

Maa has crocheted for our family for decades — baby blankets before I was born, scarves for cold Delhi winters, small gifts nobody asked for but everyone kept. She never sold any of it. It was just what she did with her evenings.
Gifts By Mosami started because friends kept asking where they could buy “one of Maa’s things” for their own family, and eventually we stopped saying no. It is still just the two of us — Maa makes, I handle the rest — and every order is still made the same way it always was: by hand, to order, one piece at a time.
We are not trying to look like a big shop, because we are not one. What we can promise is that the piece you receive was made specifically for you, in the gaps of an ordinary day, by someone who has been doing this for a long time.

How a piece gets made
Choosing the yarn
Every piece starts with Maa choosing the yarn by hand — the colour, the weight, whether it needs to be soft enough for a newborn or sturdy enough for a bag that gets used every day. It takes minutes, but everything else depends on getting it right.
Evenings of stitching
Most of the work happens after dinner, a few rows at a time. A keychain is usually one evening. A baby blanket takes the better part of two weeks, worked the same way every day until it's done.
Blocking and finishing
Once a piece is complete, Maa washes and shapes it so the stitches sit evenly and the edges lie flat. This one extra evening is why a piece holds its shape wash after wash, instead of curling at the edges.
A final check
Before anything is packed, Maa goes over the whole piece by hand — every seam, every row. If something isn't right, it gets fixed or remade before it ever leaves the house.
